David Bowie may once have sung about it, but men generally prefer spending their weekends either in the pub watching sports or playing them, while their womenfolk are let loose on the high street. Right? Well, wrong. Times, like fashions, have changed. You're just as likely to see men shoulder-rubbing and elbow-bashing their way along Princes Street, George Street and Multrees Walk in a bid to get to the latest trends. And the arrival of two new dedicated men's fashion magazines - GQ Style and Another Man - to sit alongside Arena Homme Plus, FHM Collection and Loaded Fashion, not to mention a dedicated menswear show called MAN at London Fashion Week should cement men's place firmly in the fashion world. So why the sudden interest? Bvlgari Watch Replica "It has a lot to do with places such as Topman making well-designed menswear more accessible," says Gordon Richardson of, well . . . Topman. "Five or ten years ago, the high street was guilty of repetitious, unoriginal, uninspiring clothing. That just isn't true any more." GQ Style editor David Bradley agrees, adding that the male instinct to look good has always existed - think peacocks - it's just that now the myriad fashion mags have made it less embarrassing to admit and there's a bigger range of retailers to satisfy these new urges on the cheap. So what can our fashion- conscious men look forward to this spring and summer? Well, take a look at Ordinary Boys lead singer Preston's outfits on Celebrity Big Brother and you're getting there. At Paul and Joe, skinny mod suits, pastel knits, floral and checked shirts sum up the new season, while at Allesandro Dell'Acqua the overall feel is relaxed, with V-neck sweaters and summer-friendly suits. These trends are also available on the high street. At Matalan, references to Dell'Acqua and Armani are rife, with Italian suiting and luxury fine cotton shirts. Hermes' inspired knits are available in every hue, from lemon and pink to chocolate and charcoal, in crew and V-neck. And on the casual front, a Prince of Wales check blouson with mod references nods in the direction of DSquared2, while lightweight puffa jackets provide some street chic. Burtons seems slightly less directional, still doling out military shirts, kaftans, cropped trousers and combats, but still with its more formal must-haves of suits, fine knits with pastel stripes, smart trousers and white cotton cardigans. M&S's spring/ summer men's collection boasts subtle influences from heavyweights such as Burberry Prorsum and Calvin Klein. The Autograph collection displays smart pinstripe suits from Timothy Everest with those narrow legs again, while Collezione gives Armani a run for his money with linen and silk mix suits. Topman plays on sporty silhouettes, men's tailoring, skinny mod trousers and clean modern lines, as do H&M and Designers at Debenhams. But if all this buttoned-up slim-leg approach isn't for you, then things are more relaxed at D&G with a healthy dose of layering and trainers, funky suits and laidback manly chic. There's also a faded hoodie thrown in for good measure. Well, we're all chavs these days. It's even more relaxed at Emporio Armani with ethnic drawstring trousers and loose fitting jackets, while Hermes has fused the classic and the hip courtesy of polo shirts, fine floral printed shirts and trousers in a faded palette of pale green, grey and taupe.
